Health & Medicare

Understand the ins and outs of Medicare, supplemental coverage and long‑term care planning so you can make confident healthcare decisions.

Medicare Basics

Medicare is a federal health insurance programme for people aged 65 and older, and certain younger people with disabilities. It’s divided into four parts:

Choosing the right combination of parts depends on your health needs, budget and whether you want a standalone Part D policy or an all‑in‑one Advantage plan. We help you compare options and enroll on time to avoid penalties.

Supplemental Coverage

Original Medicare doesn’t cover everything. You may face deductibles, copayments and coinsurance. Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policies can help pay these out‑of‑pocket costs and provide coverage when you travel. We’ll explain the different Medigap plans (A–N) and help you decide which fits your lifestyle.

Long‑Term Care Planning

More than half of seniors will need some form of long‑term care. Medicare and traditional health insurance generally don’t cover extended stays in nursing homes or home‑based care. Long‑term care insurance helps pay for these services, preserving your retirement savings and relieving the burden on family members.

Health Considerations for Indian Families in Ohio

Many Indian immigrants maintain strong connections to their home culture, including diets, exercise habits and family care traditions. When evaluating U.S. health insurance and Medicare options, it’s important to consider how these factors influence coverage. For example, some extended families live together, which may impact eligibility for Medicaid or subsidies. Others manage chronic conditions common in South Asian communities, such as diabetes or heart disease. We help you factor in these realities when choosing plans and coordinating care across multiple generations.

Working With a Local Advisor

Navigating Medicare and supplemental coverage is complicated. As residents of Ohio, we keep up with state and federal changes that affect your benefits. We can explain how to enroll if you’re an H‑1B professional approaching age 65, how Medicare works if your spouse remains abroad and how to combine employer health plans with Parts A and B. Our guidance is personalised and always free.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I enroll in Medicare?

Your Initial Enrollment Period begins three months before you turn 65 and lasts for seven months. Delaying Part B or Part D enrollment may result in lifelong penalties unless you have qualifying coverage elsewhere.

What is the difference between Medicare Advantage and Medigap?

Medicare Advantage (Part C) replaces Original Medicare and bundles coverage through a private plan. Medigap supplements Original Medicare by paying some out‑of‑pocket expenses. You cannot have both at the same time.

Does Medicare cover long‑term care?

Medicare covers limited skilled nursing or rehabilitative services after a hospital stay but not custodial care such as assistance with daily activities. Long‑term care insurance fills this gap.

Can I change my Medicare plan?

Yes. During the annual Open Enrollment Period (Oct 15 – Dec 7) you can switch Medicare Advantage or drug plans. Some beneficiaries also qualify for a Special Enrollment Period when they move or lose employer coverage.
